beware ikea

I bought bedroom furniture for my new room on Thursday, and had a really bad experience with Ikea.

Reasons to Beware:

1. While shopping I had a question about pillows. There was no one in the bedding department so I wandered into housewares and asked someone there. The woman said, "What you asking me for? I don't know about pillows." Then she took me back to housewares and tried to page "Laryssa" who should have been there, but Laryssa never showed up. She said "Hm, I don't know where Laryssa is," and left without another word.

2. I had asked for a bed frame and a mattress to be put on hold, but only the mattress was in Ikea's list when I got there. They sent me back to a station in Isle 5, which sent me upstairs to the showroom.

3. When I finally got back to the pick up counter, they told me my mattress was OUT OF STOCK. How does this happen when it's on hold? They didn't give me an answer. (After some arguing I did manager to get a different mattress in its place, but it was in ripped packaging and had a couple of dirty spots.)

4. When I started putting together the bed frame today, one of the parts was MISSING from the box. Yes, I had to go BACK!

5. When I went back to get it, I had to wait an HOUR. I got in at 8pm, got up to the counter at 8:30pm, was then told to sit back down and wait for the part. I saw multiple people come up after me, get their parts and leave. So at 8:50pm I cut in line, asked where my part was. The worker said "Oh, I'll go get it for you." And then went through a door and came right out with my part. It took 5 minutes. So WHY didn't he get it the first time I came up to the counter?

6. The loading dock is absurd. Instead of creating a clear path from the curb to your car, there are all these locked gates over which you have to lift the heavy boxes. Furthermore, only 1 third of the loading dock is accessible, the rest is roped off and chained up with a sign saying "CLOSED" without any explanation. It was like this both times I visited Ikea.

So, beware. I think Ikea is one of the seven circles of Hell. If you ever have to go there, DON'T!
