credit theft

I just got screwed, and by an expert too because they didn't leave any marks.

My wallet was stolen from MY OFFICE at work three weeks ago. I reported my bank card stolen so a replacement was sent by mail. I only lost $13 cash, somehow the wallet made its way back to my house through the postal service.

I noticed my new card hadn't arrived in the 7-10 estimated business days, so I called the bank back. They said my new card had already been activated and now had a new pin. Aparrently someone stole it from the MAIL and activated it.

Luckily, they hadn't used it. I check my accounts online all the time and no charges had been made since I ordered the new card. So I was able to deactivate it and now I'm working out a way to get a new one in a more secure manner.

But I have to wonder, why would someone take the card, activate it and then not use it? They had it for a whole week. I hope they weren't using it for something worse.

I guess I should be glad that even though my card was stolen twice in one month, I haven't lost any money from my bank account.

We'll see. I can't believe this happened because I'm really careful with items like this. But even I can't guard my mail before I get it from the mailbox.
