sleep deprived + cooking = bad So I slept three hours last night, went into work heinously early, and then cooked some polenta this evening. I wanted to cook because the sleep deprivation was making me feel really off, and cooking easy things tends to comfort me. I had a great time cooking, but one of the guys I live with came in and asked if I was using enough oil to cook my food. Yeah, it was cooking fine I said. I didn't realize he was reacting to a burning smell coming from my pan. I have a really weak sense of smell. He does too, probably, due to cigarettes, so I should have heeded his warning. My food came out great, but when I was washing the pot I found a half burnt sticker on the bottom of the pan. It was a new pan, and I had forgotten to take the sticker off, and it had caught fire while I was cooking the food. I can't believe I didn't notice at all. Luckily our stove is big and the ashes just fell onto the ceramic top, not starting a bigger fire. I'd probably say something witty about this, but I'm just too zonked to think of anything. But the moral I guess is that I shouldn't use fire when I'm sleep deprived. :) ophelia Update (11pm): My stomach feels upset...I think I ate some of the ashes or something :( |
